What Is Hydro-Jetting and When Do You Need It?

When a stubborn clog or years of buildup won't clear with a standard snake, hydro-jetting is the professional's answer. Here's what it is and when it's worth it.

How it works

Hydro-jetting uses a specialized hose that shoots water through your pipes at very high pressure — enough to scour away grease, scale, and debris from the entire inner wall of the pipe, not just punch a hole through a clog.

Snaking vs. hydro-jetting

A snake (auger) is great for breaking through a specific clog. Hydro-jetting cleans the whole pipe, removing the buildup that causes clogs to keep coming back. Think of snaking as clearing a path and jetting as a deep clean.

When you need it

  • Recurring clogs that keep returning after snaking
  • Grease-clogged kitchen and main lines
  • Root intrusion (paired with root cutting)
  • Slow drains throughout the house
  • Preventive cleaning for older sewer lines

Is it safe for my pipes?

For pipes in good condition, hydro-jetting is safe and highly effective. A plumber typically runs a camera inspection first to confirm the pipes can handle it — especially important for older or fragile lines.
